Equine surgical hospital in Driftwood (25 miles south of Austin, near The Salt Lick) is seeking a full-time technician/assistant. Candidates are not required to have previous technician experience, but should have prior horse handling experience. Job applicants must be organized, detail-oriented, able to perform a physically demanding job, and be flexible with scheduling and hours. Benefits include health insurance, 2 weeks vacation first year, 3 weeks vacation thereafter, CE, and other educational opportunities in a fun and challenging work environment. Pay starts at $10 per hour. Schedule will be four days per week, 8 AM- 6 PM, although some overtime may occasionally be necessary.
Technician responsibilities: Assisting doctors with exams (including jogging horses for lameness), surgery prep, radiology, laboratory analysis, ambulatory calls, and set up of diagnostic and therapeutic equipment. Technicians are also responsible for daily professional services and treatments of hospitalized patients including temperature, pulse, and respiration monitoring, and administering medications intravenously, intramuscularly, and orally. Other responsibilities include helping with inventory control by ordering and stocking supplies, clean up of surgery suite, exam rooms, barn chores, and other miscellaneous tasks.
