The Oncology Section of the Foster Hospital for Small Animals provides diagnostic, treatment, and ongoing care for patients afflicted with cancer. We have a linear accelerator and strontium source used in treating certain patients that require radiation therapy.

The Staff Veterinarian will work with the medical oncology veterinarians along with our current faculty member in radiation oncology to evaluate and treat patients. In addition, the oncologists teach 4th year students along with instructing and mentoring residents. The Oncology Section is a key provider to all other sections and must provide high quality services in a timely manner.

The Staff Veterinarian will work in each of the modalities in radiation oncology, and medical oncology as needed, to provide services and interpretive reports. The work requires hands on clinical work with technicians, students, residents, and clinicians. The radiation oncologist provides individual consultations with clinicians, referring veterinarians and clients. Client and referring veterinarian reports must be generated to document findings and treatments, as well as follow-up phone conversations as needed.

Basic Requirements: A DVM or equivalent plus completed residency training in radiation oncology with minimum two years experience. DVM required. Proficiency with Word and ability to learn Windows based programs. Ability to lift 50 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience and expertise in all diagnostic imaging modalities including radiography, ultrasound, CT, and MRI needed to create diagnostic plans for cancer patients.
