TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Full-time positions are a five day work week with eight hour shifts. There are 8 hour shifts available between 6am and 6pm. Part-time employees will generally work a two or four hour shift. Additionally, candidates must be willing to occasionally cover shifts at other Clinico locations.<br />
 KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:<br />
This position encompasses two key areas of responsibility: general technician duties and specific technical duties when assigned to specific station.<br />
JOB SUMMARY:<br />
This job entails not only general veterinary technician duties but specific tasks relating to one of three stations set up within the Clinico surgical system: Surgical Preparation, Surgical Monitoring and Recovery. This job is highly detail oriented as well as repetitive in nature. The veterinary technician will interact with the public on a daily basis as well as handling every patient that comes into the clinic for surgery. It is necessary in this position to be able to supervise, train and cross train staff members as well as volunteers. Additionally, it is essential to be able to speak knowledgably to clients about responsible animal ownership as well as surgical procedures, vaccine protocols, other Clinico protocols and animal education issues. At all times, this position requires the technician to provide quality service to clients, patients and staff and to represent Clinico, inc. in a courteous and professional manner. Furthermore, it is crucial to maintain a positive and constructive attitude and to generate ideas to further the vision, mission and goals of Clinico.<br />
General Veterinary Technician Duties      <br />
	Collect animal from owner, tag and complete paperwork<br />
	Answer questions from clients about surgical procedures and Clinico protocols<br />
	Conduct pre-surgical exams assuring animals are able to undergo anesthesia safely<br />
	Restrain animals for various procedures including blood draws, catheter placement and physical exam by veterinarian<br />
	Administer subcutaneous injections<br />
	Set up station in anticipation of the surgical needs for the day.<br />
	Clean area at end of surgery<br />
	Assist in cleaning entire clinic after surgery<br />
	Release patients to clients and inform of post surgical care<br />
	Work with volunteers<br />
	Work with shelter animals and know shelter animal procedures<br />
	Specific duties assigned to station<br />

Under direct supervision of the Shelter Manager and/or Executive Director, employees in this classification have the primary responsibility to maintain the operations of the Healdsburg Animal Shelter front office, respond to requests for service from the public, make appropriate matches with adoptable animals to members of the community in a team setting, issue dog licenses, track animal medical needs and represent the Healdsburg Animal Shelter in a positive, professional manner, while adhering to the mission statement at hand.<br />

Typical Duties: <br />

1.	Maintains the operations and cleanliness of the front office.<br />
2.	Assists the public with animal intake, redemption, and adoption in collaboration with HAS staff members.<br />
3.	Maintains lost and found reports. <br />
4.	Posts stray domestic animals to City Hall via fax. <br />
5.	Issues licenses, renews licenses. <br />
6.	Answers incoming phone calls from the public. <br />
7.	Dispatches clear and concise information to Animal Control Officers in the field.<br />
8.	Takes messages for other staff members.<br />
9.	Produces and maintains accurate shelter reports on animals housed at the shelter.<br />
10.	Updates kennel cards for new animals with clear and concise information about an animals behavior and history based on behavior assessment results and information gleaned from team meetings.<br />
11.	Maintains his/her image in a clean, professional manner.<br />
12.	Actively supports the mission and goals of the Healdsburg Animal Shelter as well as policies, established procedures and management decisions.\<br />
13.	Demonstrates the willingness to work flexible hours as assigned. <br />
14.	Has the ability to adapt and respond to the often time emotionally charge field of Animal Sheltering.<br />
15.	Presents a warm, cheerful image to the public.<br />

Working Knowledge of: the methods and techniques used in the care of animals; basic animal handling; disease control techniques, practices, methods, and materials used in cleaning animal facilities; occupational hazards of and safety precautions for working around small and large animals.<br />

Ability to: lift, carry, and move up to 50lbs. without assistance; learn health disease transmission and control procedures; recognize common symptoms and common disease of animals; perform safe animal handling techniques; perform the work in a humane manner; be exposed to the humane euthanasia of animals by direct injection; perform general labor for extended periods, sometimes under adverse weather conditions; carry out oral and written instructions; properly and legibly complete necessary forms; work tactfully and effectively with co-workers, staff, and other agencies, volunteers, court ordered community service persons, and the general public; operate a computer.<br />

Minimum Qualifications<br />
<br />
Education or Experience: Recommended six months of paid or unpaid full-time caring for animals. Examples include but are not limited to, kennel attendant, shelter worker, veterinarian assistant, or helper.<br />

In this position, the clinic manager executes daily decision making, ensures quality of care of each client, interacts with the public on a daily basis, manages and controls inventory, supervises staff, and liaises with the Harbor Shelter personnel about the care and control of shelter animals. This job requires an extremely detail - oriented person as well as someone flexible in nature. At all times, this position requires a professional and courteous demeanor toward clients, patients, staff and volunteers.<br />

Clinic Operation Duties:<br />
	Monitor and promote high quality patient care and customer service <br />
	Implement current policies and procedures and participate in the development of new policies and procedures for organizational improvement.<br />

This job is highly detailed oriented as well as repetitive in nature. In this position, the R.V.T. oversees and ensures the quality of care of each patient that passes through Clinico. The R.V.T. will interact with the public on a daily basis as well as handling every patient that comes into the clinic while inducing them for surgery. This position requires the ability to multi-task specific technical duties as well as directing staff in animal care before and after surgery.   It is necessary in this position to be able to supervise, train and cross train staff members as well as volunteers. Additionally, it is essential to be able to speak knowledgably to clients about responsible animal ownership as well as surgical procedures, vaccine protocols, other Clinico protocols and animal education issues. At all times, this position requires the R.V.T.  to provide quality service to clients, patients and staff and to represent Clinico, inc. in a courteous and professional manner.<br />
General Veterinary Technician Duties      <br />
	Collect animal from owner, tag and complete paperwork<br />
	Answer questions from clients about surgical procedures and Clinico protocols<br />
	Conduct pre-surgical exams assuring animals are able to undergo anesthesia safely<br />
	Restrain animals for various procedures including blood draws, catheter placement and physical exam by veterinarian<br />
	Administer subcutaneous injections<br />
	Set up station in anticipation of the surgical needs for the day.<br />
	Clean area at end of surgery<br />
	Assist in cleaning entire clinic after surgery<br />
	Release patients to clients and inform of post surgical care<br />
	Work with volunteers<br />
	Work with shelter animals and know shelter animal procedures<br />
	Other duties as assigned<br />
Specific Registered Veterinary Technician Duties<br />
	Handle and log controlled substances properly and responsibly.<br />
	Maintain and reconcile controlled substance logs. <br />
	Calculate drug dosages based on weight and given parameters.<br />
	Properly fill out patient paperwork and ensure correct procedures are performed on patient.<br />
	Accurately and efficiently administer intravenous injection of controlled substance to induce anesthesia in dogs and cats.<br />
	Administer additional required injections and perform other required procedures  as directed by surgeon.<br />
	Intubate induced surgical candidate with appropriately sized endotracheal tube and attach to anesthetic machine.<br />
	Accurately assess patient anesthetic depth and adjust anesthesia accordingly i.e. bagging patient, deep pain stimulus test etc<br />
	Monitor anesthetized patient and maintain surgical anesthetic plane of anesthesia while patient is prepped for surgery and moved into surgical suite. <br />
	Execute all other duties as requested by surgeon including blood draws, catheter placement, administering fluids I.V. and SQ , euthanasia of both adult animals and feti, applying pressure wraps to various parts of an animal etc<br />
	Field questions from staff and public and reach decisions about patient care both pre and post operatively.<br />
<br />
Qualifications:<br />
	Current Registered Veterinary Technician License<br />
	Staff supervision experience<br />
	Clinic management experience<br />
	Knowledgeable in all aspects of surgery, vaccinations, and disease control in a high volume spay/neuter clinic.<br />
	Some post-secondary education and/or training in areas related to staff management and development, and veterinary clinic management strongly preferred<br />
	Current California Drivers License is mandatory<br />

Broad Function: To provide medical assessment, health checks, administer medications and provide daily care for sick animals at the shelter. Assist in the execution of onsite spay/neuter and vaccination clinics. Provide medical examinations and vaccinations to shelter animals in the foster care program. Maintains Petpoint vaccination updates for shelter animals and other medical documentation. To ensure all sick animals are in clean conditions, and maintain such items as litter boxes, food bowls, kennels, clean. To ensure clinic is clean at all times. Will perform other duties as assigned/needed. Reports to Medical Supervisor.

Specific Duties:
<br /> <br />
Daily check of each animal under medical care for signs of illness improvement, medicate those who need it. Clean kennels, litter boxes and food bowls.
<br />
Assess medical conditions and take appropriate action.
<br />
Provide daily medication to treatment animals in the shelter ensuring at all times that proper forms are filled out per animal and signed off. No medication is to be administered to any animal without proper logging onto a medical form, including explanation for medication. <br />
Creates and maintains medical sheet for each animal receiving medication and signs off on these sheets after administering medications. <br />
Ensures that after their surgery, all dogs are returned to their proper kennel in the barn and that cats are housed in a proper location in the cattery. Proper location is to be determined by either barn staff or cattery staff. Barn staff is to be informed at this time if any dog needs further medication. <br />
Administer health checks to all new animals in shelter (with help of kennel staff or medical supervisor). Health checks consist of: Heartworm tests, FeLV/FIV tests, vaccinations, dewormer, heartworm and flea/tick medication as needed.

Track vaccinations and provide follow-up vaccinations as needed.
<br />
Enter all medical information into animals Petpoint record or inform proper staff when needed.
<br />
Makes veterinarian appointments and transports animals to veterinarian as needed, with approval of Medical Supervisor, Executive Director, Kennel Manager or Office Manager.
<br />
Assist in the preparation, execution and clean up of spay/neuter clinic and vaccination clinic.
<br />
Provide care, feeding and cleaning for all animals housed in clinic and ISO rooms.
<br />
Cleaning and disinfecting of Clinic daily and after Surgery and Vaccine Clinics, and of ISO rooms, and of medical office/steam room, especially if animals are housed there
<br />
Assist with cleaning of Cat Adoption Room or Barn if needed.
<br />
Communicate with kennel staff the special needs of individual animals. Follow up as appropriate to ensure special care is administered. <br />
Reports deaths of shelter animals to Medical Supervisor.
<br />
Provide medical care of all animals in foster when needed, be it medication or vaccinations. <br />

Qualifications: Minimum requirements are a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Previous vet tech experience required. Candidate must have knowledge of basic safe animal handling techniques, performing animal health assessments, ability to effectively administer medications and vaccinations and some surgical technician experience. <br /> <br />
Salary: Commensurate with experience

Other: Valid drivers license required. Willingness to attend training programs to upgrade skill level. Weekend work required.
