<h3>KENNEL ATTENDANT</h3>
<p><strong>PURPOSE</strong></p>
<p>Assist the Director of Operations with the daily operational duties of the shelter with primary responsibility for the direct care of all shelter animals including cleaning protocols, health, laundry and general maintenance.</p>
<p><strong>SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED</strong></p>
<p>Kennel Attendant assists with daily animal care and general shelter maintenance and housekeeping as directed by the Director of Operations.</p>
<p><strong>ESSENTIAL DUTIES</strong></p>
<p>Duties may include but are not limited to the following:</p>
<ul>
<li>Responsible for the care of animals and the cleaning and maintenance of shelter facilities</li>
<li>Monitors the health of the animals on a daily basis and confers with the Wellness Coordinator about any animals which may need medical treatment</li>
<li>Communicates inventory needs to the Animal Care and Administrative Assistant</li>
<li>Transports animals to/from veterinarian offices for treatment</li>
<li>Other Duties as Assigned</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>QUALIFICATIONS</strong></p>
<p><i><strong>Experience/Education</strong></i></p>
<p>One year progressively responsible experience performing routine duties in an animal shelter/veterinary office.</p>
<p><i><strong>Knowledge/Skill/Ability</strong></i></p>
<ul>
<li>Knowledge of techniques for properly handling and caring for animals</li>
<li>Able to prioritize tasks and handle stressful situations</li>
<li>Must be able to handle a variety of animals in a safe and humane fashion</li>
<li>Deal effectively and tactfully with the public</li>
<li>Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and a team spirit with staff and volunteers</li>
</ul>
<p><i><strong>Working Conditions</strong></i></p>
<ul>
<li>Position requires prolonged, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting, and stooping in the performance of daily activities as well as exposure to weather conditions including heat and rain</li>
<li>The position also requires grasping and repetitive hand movement</li>
<li>The incumbent is frequently around animals that may be agitated or attempt to bite or scratch</li>
<li>The need to lift and carry animals weighing in excess of 50 pounds also is required</li>
</ul>
<p><i><strong>License/Certificate</strong></i></p>
<p>Possession of a Class C California driver&#8217;s license and acceptable driving history required.</p>
<p><i><strong>Work Schedule</strong></i></p>
<p>This is an hourly, non-exempt, 40 hour per week position. Applicant must be willing and able to work a changing schedule, including some or all weekends. Salary is $9.00 per hour.</p>

Must have working knowledge of the methods and techniques used in the care of animals; basic animal handling; disease control techniques, practices, methods, and materials used in cleaning animal facilities; occupational hazards of and safety precautions for working around small and large animals.<br />

Ability to: lift, carry, and move up to 50lbs. without assistance; learn health disease transmission and control procedures; recognize common symptoms and common disease of animals; perform safe animal handling techniques; perform the work in a humane manner; perform general labor for extended periods, sometimes under adverse weather conditions; carry out oral and written instructions; properly and legibly complete necessary forms; work tactfully and effectively with co-workers, staff, and other agencies, volunteers, court ordered community service persons, and the general public; operate a computer.<br />

3.	Maintains lost and found reports. <br />
4.	Posts stray domestic animals to City Hall via fax. <br />
5.	Issues licenses, renews licenses. <br />
6.	Answers incoming phone calls from the public. <br />
7.	Dispatches clear and concise information to Animal Control Officers in the field.<br />
8.	Takes messages for other staff members.<br />
9.	Produces and maintains accurate shelter reports on animals housed at the shelter.<br />
10.	Updates kennel cards for new animals with clear and concise information about an animals behavior and history based on behavior assessment results and information gleaned from team meetings.<br />
11.	Maintains his/her image in a clean, professional manner.<br />
12.	Actively supports the mission and goals of the Healdsburg Animal Shelter as well as policies, established procedures and management decisions.\<br />
13.	Demonstrates the willingness to work flexible hours as assigned. <br />
14.	Has the ability to adapt and respond to the often time emotionally charge field of Animal Sheltering.<br />

Ability to: lift, carry, and move up to 50lbs. without assistance; learn health disease transmission and control procedures; recognize common symptoms and common disease of animals; perform safe animal handling techniques; perform the work in a humane manner; be exposed to the humane euthanasia of animals by direct injection; perform general labor for extended periods, sometimes under adverse weather conditions; carry out oral and written instructions; properly and legibly complete necessary forms; work tactfully and effectively with co-workers, staff, and other agencies, volunteers, court ordered community service persons, and the general public; operate a computer.<br />

Minimum Qualifications<br />
<br />
Education or Experience: Recommended six months of paid or unpaid full-time caring for animals. Examples include but are not limited to, kennel attendant, shelter worker, veterinarian assistant, or helper.<br />

<p>Kennel Attendant assists with daily animal care and general shelter maintenance and housekeeping as directed by the Director of Operations.</p>

<p><strong>ESSENTIAL DUTIES</strong></p>
<p>Duties may include but are not limited to the following:</p>
<ul>
<li>Responsible for the care of animals and the cleaning and maintenance of shelter facilities</li>
<li>Monitors the health of the animals on a daily basis and confers with the Wellness Coordinator about any animals which may need medical treatment</li>
<li>Communicates inventory needs to the Animal Care and Administrative Assistant</li>
<li>Transports animals to/from veterinarian offices for treatment</li>
<li>Other Duties as Assigned</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>QUALIFICATIONS</strong></p>

<p><i><strong>Experience/Education</strong></i></p>
<p>One year progressively responsible experience performing routine duties in an animal shelter/veterinary office.</p> 
 
<p><i><strong>Knowledge/Skill/Ability</strong></i></p>
<ul>
<li>Knowledge of techniques for properly handling and caring for animals</li>
<li>Able to prioritize tasks and handle stressful situations</li>
<li>Must be able to handle a variety of animals in a safe and humane fashion</li>
<li>Deal effectively and tactfully with the public</li>
<li>Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and a team spirit with staff and volunteers</li>
</ul>
<p><i><strong>Working Conditions</strong></i></p>
<ul>
<li>Position requires prolonged, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting, and stooping in the performance of daily activities as well as exposure to weather conditions including heat and rain</li>
<li>The position also requires grasping and repetitive hand movement</li> 
<li>The incumbent is frequently around animals that may be agitated or attempt to bite or scratch</li> 
<li>The need to lift and carry animals weighing in excess of 50 pounds also is required</li>

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 
<br />
Conduct assigned morning and evening rounds of all areas of the shelter to ensure the well being of all animals. 
<br />
Prepare daily list of animals requiring vet exams. 
<br />
Administer daily medical treatment to all sheltered animals as prescribed by staff veterinarians. 
<br />
Assist veterinarian in examination and treatment of animals. 
<br />
Assist veterinarian with emergency medical treatment as necessary. 
<br />
Perform health checks of animals before they are placed for adoption. 
<br />
Participate in the Screening Room/Receiving area activities including; scanning, banding, vaccinating and examining animals when necessary. 
<br />
Assist in lab work and radiology requirements of shelter animals. 
<br />
Assist with the training and supervision of vet department volunteers. 
<br />
Must become familiar with proper processing of animals through the shelter, and the corresponding. 
<br />
Provide humane care and treatment of all sheltered animals. Euthanize and/or assist with euthanasia of animals as needed in accordance with PHS/SPCA policies and procedures. 
<br />
Receive animals into the shelter and obtain thorough and complete information regarding the animals history. 
<br />
Responsible for educating the public at the time of animal intake. 
<br />
Maintain a clean and sanitary work area in all work spaces. 
<br />

Restrain dogs and cats for pre-surgical injections and IV inducing Responsible for surgical preparation of patients including, sterilization, and administration of pre-surgical injections Perform admitting and discharge duties for public and shelter animals Assist with emergency medical practices as necessary Maintain proper paperwork and medical records as required by law Monitor animals under anesthesia Maintain department equipment in good working order. Report items for repair/replacement as needed to appropriate supervisory staff Perform general office duties Supervisory Responsibilities: This job may supervise volunteers within the spay/neuter clinic area.

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

-Responsible for the care of animals and the cleaning and maintenance of shelter facilities

-Monitors the health of the animals on a daily basis and confers with the Wellness Coordinator about any animals which may need medical treatment

-Communicates inventory needs to the Animal Care and Administrative Assistant

-Transports animals to/from veterinarian offices for treatment

One year progressively responsible experience performing routine duties in an animal shelter/veterinary office.

-Knowledge of techniques for properly handling and caring for animals

-Able to prioritize tasks and handle stressful situations
<br />
-Must be able to handle a variety of animals in a safe and humane fashion

-Deal effectively and tactfully with the public

-Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and a team spirit with staff and volunteers
<br />

<strong>Working Conditions</strong>
<br />
Position requires prolonged, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting, and stooping in the performance of daily activities as well as exposure to weather conditions including heat and rain
<br />
The position also requires grasping and repetitive hand movement 
<br />
The incumbent is frequently around animals that may be agitated or attempt to bite or scratch 
<br />
The need to lift and carry animals weighing in excess of 50 pounds also is required 
<br />

<strong>License/Certificate</strong>
<br />
Possession of a Class C California driver's license and acceptable driving history required.
<br />

<br />
<strong>Work Schedule</strong>
<br />
This is an hourly, non-exempt, 40 hour per week position. Applicant must be willing and able to work a changing schedule, including some or all weekends. Salary is $9.00 per hour.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: providing general information and support to the public on the phone and in person, and also providing support to the Adoption area by performing some of the following duties: assisting customers with preliminary adoption paperwork; greeting customers as they enter the facility and directing them to appropriate areas, while explaining procedure and protocols. Also, providing direct care and maintenance for all animals in the shelter, including feeding, general husbandry and cleaning of the kennels, Shoreline cages, and all shelter areas. <br /> <br />
The CSR/ACT must maintain a professional and positive attitude and uphold the principles and beliefs of the organization at all times; must focus on solving conflicts, maintain confidentiality, listen to customers without interruption, and be able to keep emotions under control. Must be able to write clearly and informatively; read and interpret standard operating procedures and protocols; be able to follow instructions, respond to management direction, and take responsibility for own actions. Must be able to observe safety and security procedures, and use equipment and materials properly. <br /> <br />
Candidates must have a High School diploma; six to nine months of excellent customer service experience is required. Candidate must be able to perform professionally in a pressure-filled environment. Will also feed and water animals according to schedules and established protocol; cleans and disinfects kennels, cages, and yard areas. Maintains grounds of facility to ensure all fecal matter is removed as well as any debris. Observes animals for signs of illness and advises proper personnel accordingly; holds animals during euthanasia process; bathes animals in accordance with established guidelines; exercises animals regularly to minimize the shelter environment stress; and, completes laundry and dish washing timely and effectively. Veterinary Tech

Broad Function: To provide medical assessment, health checks, administer medications and provide daily care for sick animals at the shelter. Assist in the execution of onsite spay/neuter and vaccination clinics. Provide medical examinations and vaccinations to shelter animals in the foster care program. Maintains Petpoint vaccination updates for shelter animals and other medical documentation. To ensure all sick animals are in clean conditions, and maintain such items as litter boxes, food bowls, kennels, clean. To ensure clinic is clean at all times. Will perform other duties as assigned/needed. Reports to Medical Supervisor.

Specific Duties:
<br /> <br />
Daily check of each animal under medical care for signs of illness improvement, medicate those who need it. Clean kennels, litter boxes and food bowls.
<br />
Assess medical conditions and take appropriate action.
<br />
Provide daily medication to treatment animals in the shelter ensuring at all times that proper forms are filled out per animal and signed off. No medication is to be administered to any animal without proper logging onto a medical form, including explanation for medication. <br />
Creates and maintains medical sheet for each animal receiving medication and signs off on these sheets after administering medications. <br />
Ensures that after their surgery, all dogs are returned to their proper kennel in the barn and that cats are housed in a proper location in the cattery. Proper location is to be determined by either barn staff or cattery staff. Barn staff is to be informed at this time if any dog needs further medication. <br />
Administer health checks to all new animals in shelter (with help of kennel staff or medical supervisor). Health checks consist of: Heartworm tests, FeLV/FIV tests, vaccinations, dewormer, heartworm and flea/tick medication as needed.
<br />
Track vaccinations and provide follow-up vaccinations as needed.
<br />
Enter all medical information into animals Petpoint record or inform proper staff when needed.
<br />
Makes veterinarian appointments and transports animals to veterinarian as needed, with approval of Medical Supervisor, Executive Director, Kennel Manager or Office Manager.
<br />
Assist in the preparation, execution and clean up of spay/neuter clinic and vaccination clinic.
<br />
Provide care, feeding and cleaning for all animals housed in clinic and ISO rooms.
<br />
Cleaning and disinfecting of Clinic daily and after Surgery and Vaccine Clinics, and of ISO rooms, and of medical office/steam room, especially if animals are housed there
<br />
Assist with cleaning of Cat Adoption Room or Barn if needed.
<br />
Communicate with kennel staff the special needs of individual animals. Follow up as appropriate to ensure special care is administered. <br />
Reports deaths of shelter animals to Medical Supervisor.
<br />
Provide medical care of all animals in foster when needed, be it medication or vaccinations. <br />

Authority: The Vet Tech position reports to the Medical Supervisor. <br /> <br />
Qualifications: Minimum requirements are a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Previous vet tech experience required. Candidate must have knowledge of basic safe animal handling techniques, performing animal health assessments, ability to effectively administer medications and vaccinations and some surgical technician experience. <br /> <br />

This person will assist in the execution of onsite spay/neuter and vaccination clinics. In addition, the chosen candidate will provide medical examinations and vaccinations to shelter animals in the foster care program and also and maintain the vaccination schedule for shelter animals and complete other medical documentation, as necessary. <p>Veterinary Tech</p>
<p>Broad Function: To provide medical assessment, health checks, administer medications and provide daily care for sick animals at the shelter. Assist in the execution of onsite spay/neuter and vaccination clinics. Provide medical examinations and vaccinations to shelter animals in the foster care program. Maintains Petpoint vaccination updates for shelter animals and other medical documentation. To ensure all sick animals are in clean conditions, and maintain such items as litter boxes, food bowls, kennels, clean. To ensure clinic is clean at all times. Will perform other duties as assigned/needed. Reports to Medical Supervisor.</p>
<p>Specific Duties:</p>
<p>Daily check of each animal under medical care for signs of illness improvement, medicate those who need it. Clean kennels, litter boxes and food bowls.<br />
<br />
Assess medical conditions and take appropriate action.<br />
<br />
Provide daily medication to treatment animals in the shelter ensuring at all times that proper forms are filled out per animal and signed off. No medication is to be administered to any animal without proper logging onto a medical form, including explanation for medication. <br />
Creates and maintains medical sheet for each animal receiving medication and signs off on these sheets after administering medications. <br />
Ensures that after their surgery, all dogs are returned to their proper kennel in the barn and that cats are housed in a proper location in the cattery. Proper location is to be determined by either barn staff or cattery staff. Barn staff is to be informed at this time if any dog needs further medication. <br />
Administer health checks to all new animals in shelter (with help of kennel staff or medical supervisor). Health checks consist of: Heartworm tests, FeLV/FIV tests, vaccinations, dewormer, heartworm and flea/tick medication as needed.<br />
<br />
Track vaccinations and provide follow-up vaccinations as needed.<br />
<br />
Enter all medical information into animals Petpoint record or inform proper staff when needed.<br />
<br />
Makes veterinarian appointments and transports animals to veterinarian as needed, with approval of Medical Supervisor, Executive Director, Kennel Manager or Office Manager.<br />
<br />
Assist in the preparation, execution and clean up of spay/neuter clinic and vaccination clinic.<br />
<br />
Provide care, feeding and cleaning for all animals housed in clinic and ISO rooms.<br />
<br />
Cleaning and disinfecting of Clinic daily and after Surgery and Vaccine Clinics, and of ISO rooms, and of medical office/steam room, especially if animals are housed there<br />
<br />
Assist with cleaning of Cat Adoption Room or Barn if needed.<br />
<br />
Communicate with kennel staff the special needs of individual animals. Follow up as appropriate to ensure special care is administered. <br />
Reports deaths of shelter animals to Medical Supervisor.<br />
<br />
Provide medical care of all animals in foster when needed, be it medication or vaccinations. <br />
Other duties as assigned </p>
<p>Note: Medical duties include but are not limited to; administering medication, illness/injury/grooming assessment, weight management, and vaccinations.</p>
<p>Authority: The Vet Tech position reports to the Medical Supervisor. </p>
<p>Qualifications: Minimum requirements are a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Previous vet tech experience required. Candidate must have knowledge of basic safe animal handling techniques, performing animal health assessments, ability to effectively administer medications and vaccinations and some surgical technician experience. </p>
<p>Salary: Commensurate with experience</p>
<p>Other: Valid drivers license required. Willingness to attend training programs to upgrade skill level. Weekend work required.<br />
