SUMMARY

The rooming attendant is a customer service focused position in the Vet Tech Services department. Having a dedicated staff responsible for rooming appointments and emergencies ensures that appointments will be roomed on time. This provides consistency for the doctors and enables the rooming attendant to become familiar with the practice style for each veterinarian. In addition, the clients will see the same friendly faces each time they come in for their appointments, creating a more welcoming environment and enabling us to establish a more personal relationship with our clients. Rooming attendants will also provide support for the lab and pharmacy team by assisting with lab work and filling prescriptions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• To monitor the doctors’ appointment schedules in Impromed to ensure prompt rooming of incoming patients

• To continuously monitor the emergency patients in reception in order to facilitate communication with the clients and to more quickly notify the doctor or technician of patient progression

• To greet incoming patients and clients and direct them to the appropriate exam room

• To handle all animals humanely, properly and with compassion, including those that may be sick, injured or feral

• To always treat people and animals with respect; to contribute to effective teamwork and practice direct communication

• To assist in maintaining healthy, safe, sanitary, pleasant and clean facilities by participating in cleaning and housekeeping duties

• To conduct weight and temperature measurements for each patient and record in the medical file

• To follow established procedures governing safe work practices including wearing protective clothing or equipment when necessary

• To maintain healthy, safe, sanitary, pleasant and clean facilities by participating in cleaning and maintaining the housekeeping duties checklists

• To assist in the maintenance and inventory of supplies by restocking the exam rooms as needed and notifying the Technician Supervisor if supplies are low

• To perform client demonstrations for administering medications to out-patients in a patient and professional manner

• To assist Client Services personnel whenever necessary to assure smooth, courteous handling of our clients and their pets.

• To assist Vet Tech Supervisors in maintaining the parameters of the Hospital budget by caring for equipment properly and minimizing waste of hospital supplies

• Work to improve skills as assigned and directed by the Vet Tech Supervisors and Training Coordinator

• To use the Pets Unlimited Core Values as a guide for behavior and when making decisions and addressing problems

• To perform other duties as assigned by the Vet Tech Supervisor or Doctor
