JOB TITLE: VETERINARY TECHNICIAN

REPORTS TO: Veterinarian, Clinic Manager

WORK RELATIONSHIPS: Clinic Surgeon, Clinic Manager, Director of Operations, Executive Director, Staff

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: This position is full-time. This position requires a 4 day work week with 10 hour shifts. Candidates for this position must be able to be at the clinic between 6am and 4pm. Additionally, candidates must be willing to occasionally cover shifts at other Clinico locations.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

This position encompasses two key areas of responsibility: general technician duties and specific technical duties when assigned to specific station.

JOB SUMMARY:

This job entails not only general veterinary technician duties but specific tasks relating to one of three stations set up within the Clinico surgical system: Surgical Preparation, Surgical Monitoring and Recovery. This job is highly detail oriented as well as repetitive in nature. The veterinary technician will interact with the public on a daily basis as well as handling every patient that comes into the clinic for surgery. It is necessary in this position to be able to supervise, train and cross train staff members as well as volunteers. Additionally, it is essential to be able to speak knowledgeably to clients about responsible animal ownership as well as surgical procedures, vaccine protocols, other Clinico protocols and animal education issues. At all times, this position requires the technician to provide quality service to clients, patients and staff and to represent Clinico, inc. in a courteous and professional manner. Furthermore, it is crucial to maintain a positive and constructive attitude and to generate ideas to further the vision, mission and goals of Clinico.

General Veterinary Technician Duties

• Collect animal from owner, tag and complete paperwork

• Answer questions from clients about surgical procedures and Clinico protocols

• Conduct pre-surgical exams assuring animals are able to undergo anesthesia safely

• Restrain animals for various procedures including blood draws, catheter placement and physical exam by veterinarian

• Administer subcutaneous injections

• Set up station in anticipation of the surgical needs for the day.

• Clean area at end of surgery

• Assist in cleaning entire clinic after surgery

• Release patients to clients and inform of post surgical care

• Work with volunteers

• Work with shelter animals and know shelter animal procedures

• Specific duties assigned to station

• Other duties as assigned
